VIBES 3.0
Our Vibes: A Vibrotactile Screendance Installation
(2025 - Present)

“Our Vibes” is a dance-film installation that integrates screen-based body percussion with a vibrating viewing platform. By blending body percussion, dance, film, and bass-shaker technology, the project creates an immersive experience where audiences can physically feel the rhythms and vibrations of a dance-film. This tactile experience is designed to illustrate the dynamics of communication in relationships, showing how two people can find harmony even when they can seem out of sync.

Attached to a 12’ by 12’ platform are six bass-shakers that convert the dance-film’s sound into physical vibrations, allowing viewers to feel the music. Additionally, the installation will include a large screen for displaying the dance-film, alongside two speakers either side of the screen. The platform also includes a ramp for wheelchair access. This setup aims to make dance on screen more accessible, particularly for those with hearing impairments or other sensory needs, and to expand traditional dance and film boundaries.

This technology will offer a new way for audiences to experience and interpret dance, particularly benefiting those with hearing impairments but also suitable for a wide-range of audiences who have a need for sensorial art experiences that allow you to feel what you watch. This includes but is not limited to Deaf and hard-of-hearing, neurodiverse and visually-impaired audiences.

The majority of dance-films created around the world are often inaccessible to the aforementioned audiences. Therefore, it is my hope that I can engage audiences through this tactile experience and inspire other creatives to produce similar content with accessibility at the forefront.

"Our Vibes" is currently still in development and will be screening at several location in the University of Wisconsin-Madison over the next year. Six episodic behind-the-scenes videos are due to be released in 2026.
